Manages all Library Development activities provision of library development information and consulting; resource sharing and interlibrary cooperation; professional library services; library governance; and administration.
Provides training for library boards of trustees and Friends groups; provides programs for libraries in staff development.
Provides consulting services to libraries for strategic planning efforts.
Serves as project manager for GPLS B4 initiative (birth-age 4 preliteracy library programming)
Supervision of staff.
Serve as GPLS liaison to Friends of Georgia Libraries.
Direct resources sharing efforts, including the coordination of group purchases of services and materials for libraries and participation on the GALILEO Steering Committee.
Manages the performance measurement of programs and evaluates the quality of services provided through review of reports and statistical data and conferences with reporting staff.
Provides leadership in administration and management of responsive statewide programs aimed at working in partnership with local communities to develop and extend public library service and coordinating efforts among all types of libraries.
Ensures efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of programs and services.
Advances the Library Development program by identifying sources of funding and other support, making grant applications, coordinating resource development initiatives and related activities.
Monitors priorities, programs, and services in individual libraries in order to proactively respond to developing problems and local needs.
Assures that individual libraries are informed about State Library plans, policies, and programs.
Evaluates applications and participates in decision-making about allocation and appropriate use of state and federal grant funds.
Prepares budgets and supervises expenditures in accordance with the budget.
Directs and assists staff with program delivery. Obtains necessary feedback and follows up to ensure that tasks are executed as required to fulfill established missions.
Serves as a liaison on library development matters with the department, libraries, associations, the private sector and public agencies on state and national levels to ensure that the division provides optimal customer service by taking full advantage of new developments and opportunities for coordination.
Attends seminars, conferences, job-related training and other staff development training programs. May serve on committees and task forces.
Recommends appropriate objectives and program areas for training and technical assistance and promotes their use.
Coordinate special projects and programs. Serves on special task forces, study committees or other designated groups.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences.
Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.
Master's degree in Library or Information Science (M.L.S.) or equivalent from a program accredited by the American Library Association and a minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in public libraries. Five (5) years of professional experience in public library administration.
